Mail and Facebook Detox!

Recently, I have noticed that my brain will often slip off and read my email or just quickly check Facebook. My estimate is that I check mail at least 30 times a day and probably log into Facebook around 10 times… Getting my iPhone set up to check mails has only made this worse.

This bad habit is seriously spoiling my effective time – both at work and in my spare time!

WHAT A WASTE!

So here is the new habit I want to build:

  • Facebook, check in the morning
  • Check personal email once in morning and once in the evening, after dinner
  • Check work email in Morning, at midday (12.00) and at (14.00)

I will not check work email before I log of for the day. There is nothing I can do about the mail anyway, so no reason to leave it lingering.

One of the excuses my brain comes up with, is that I may “forget” to check mail – unless I do it regularly. Quite neurotic isn’t it?

Mail rules are there for a reason. I am getting pretty good at using Outlook to filter mails. Last week, I reconfigured my filters and they have been quite efficient. More about this soon… stay tuned…
